Indonesia Tourism Places
Bali is the picture-postcard paradise: stunning scenery, gentle sarong-clad people and sunsets of legendary glory. No wonder it’s the most popular spot in the archipelago. Set inland, the hilly town of Ubud is where visitors can get a sense of Bali’s traditional culture, through the art galleries, temples and museums which dot the area. For the opposite experience, head to Kuta one of the most popular tourist resort areas. Brash and busy and overrun with backpackers as it may be, if you’re looking for a party, this is most likely where you’ll find it. The same goes for surfing as the area has a long history of attracting surfers to its great breaks.
Hop on a flight to the neighbour Lombok, and here’s where the pace of life settles down to languorous rhythm. Glorious beaches play host to surfers who have moved on from Kuta’s charms, whilst the towering volcano of Mount Rinjani on North Lombok is the perfect place for trekkers to push themselves to the limit.
Explore the world’s highest diversity of coral species while diving the reefs of Raja Ampat in West Papua. Squeeze in a trip to catch a sight of Komodo dragons (also known as ‘living dinosaurs’) feeding on Komodo Island. It will astound as will Borobudur’s architectural treasures, which include 5km (3 miles) of Buddhist relief carvings. Adventure-seekers head for Borneo’s remote jungle interior or explore Sumatra, with its teeming wildlife and wealth of tribal groups.
Still, there’s a lot more interesting place to visit in Indonesia, there are over 17,000 islands just waiting to be explored. An Indonesia like no other.

Indonesia was visited by over 725 thousand foreign visitors in March 2013, trends is up 10.1 percent compared to the same month last year. The Indonesian tourism department has set the ambitious target of welcoming a total of nine million foreign tourists in 2013. In 2014, it wants at least 10 million foreigners to visit Indonesia. The government expects these increases to originate mainly from the Asia-Pacific region itself. Around 57% of visitors are traveling to Indonesia for holiday, while 38% for business purposes.
In total, more than two million foreign visitors entered Indonesia in calender year 2013 (Indonesia tourism rate January-March). This constitutes a six percent rise compared to Q1-2012. According to minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Mari Elka Pangestu, it is a very good sign for Indonesia tourism industry that foreign visitor growth reached double digits in February and March. It will increase the sector’s contribution towards the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), increase of tourism investment and provide more employment opportunities for the people. Indonesian tourism ministry believes that the growth in foreign visitors is attributable to the government promotion campaign and the opening of new airline routes to foreign destinations.
